Niger LG Polls: APC Vehicle Kills PDP Ex- Councillor

On Thursday night, Police arrested tension created in Bida Niger state as All Progressive Congress APC campaign vehicle killed People Democratic party PDP  former Councillor, Hon Lawal Manko after a campaign rally of the two parties in different locations ahead of the local government election today.

The Ex Councillor was among the PDP members who had joined the campaign team of the Party  going around the major areas in Bida for a mop-up campaign when the APC vehicle accidentally ran into a group of the PDP campaigners  killing the Ex councillor and injuring one other.
It was learnt that the former councillor, gave up the ghost while the other PDP member was rushed to the hospital with the driver of the APC vehicle who also sustained injuries.
It was learnt that when some PDP members in the area heard about the accident, they were miffed by the development and were viewing it as a deliberate act by the APC members, before the police arrested the situation.
Eye witness account revealed that the situation was further mitigated when it was discovered that the driver of the vehicle who is also an APC member also sustained injuries, an indication that it was not a deliberate attempt to take the life of the former councillor as earlier rumoured.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO Niger state Police Command, Mr.  Bala Elkana confirmed the accident, saying that contrary to the earlier impression, the incident was a pure accident that might have been caused by recklessness of the driver,  from preliminary findings.
He however assured that the police will conduct a thorough investigation into the accident and that the men and officers of the command were fully mobilized to ensure that peace is sustained in the area.
